Dipa Karmakar

Dipa Karmakar is one of the very few Indian athletes today who probably does not need much introduction. She has become a household name owing to her successes and her fan following has no age barrier. Even an average kid in India might know that she is only the fifth woman ever to successfully land the risky Produnova vault. But there is one thing that not a lot of people know about Dipa - she was born with flat feet, a physical feature that is not suitable for a gymnast; as it affects their jumps and landing. Her long-term coach Bishweshwar Nandi recommended certain exercises to help her overcome this weakness. Dipa credits his strict supervision since her childhood for her success.
